Chengdu Tour
Chengdu is a city located in southwest China.
It is the capital city of Sichuan province and is the fifth most populated
city in China after Shanghai,
Beijing,
Tianjin and Chongqing. This city has a history that dates back to more than
two thousand years with historic icons like the Three Kingdoms, Tang Dynasty,
Du Fu and Zhuge Liang.
Panda Bear and Tourist Attractions
Chengdu is a popular tourist attraction with its natural wonders such as Mt.
Qingcheng, Huang Long Valley and Jiu Zhai Gou just to name a few. Organized
tours to this city will inevitably include sightseeing trips to view its
famous but endangered Panda Bears in their natural habitat. One of the places
you can see panda bears nibbling bamboo shoots is at the Chengdu Panda
Breeding and Research Center which is about 4 miles (10km) away from the city
center. The park simulates the natural habitat of the pandas to encourage them
to breed.
History buffs can travel to the western outskirts of the city
to see where Tang poet Du Fu built his cottage in 760 AD. This is a shrine to
Chinese literature with a 24 ha classical Chinese garden interspersed with
running streams, wooden bridges, bamboo groves and pavilions etched with the
poet's poetries.
Taking tourists further back in history is the
Wuhou Memorial Temple located at the south of Chengdu. This memorial is
deidicated to Zhuge Liang, the famous military genius and strategist of Shu
state during the Three Kingdom period (around 200 AD). This red colored
memorial is lovingly surrounded by old cypress trees.

Strolling along Wen Wu road, tourists can take a rest in some of the ancient
quaint Chinese tea houses there. These tea houses are also entrances to acient
stone homes with huge wooden doorways. By night, the entrances of the tea
houses are lit with red lanterns just like a scene out of a Chinese period
movie. Tourists and locals mingle together in these tea houses to sip tea and
watch performances by folk artistes.
There is also a night bazaar in this area that actually still sell Mao
Zedong's little red books which was akin to the bible to the communists of his
era. Here you can also get some souvenirs in the form of small local
handicrafts.
Not to be missed by any tourists are tours to the Dujiangyan Irrigation
System and Mount Qingcheng. Dujiangyan Irrigation System was first constructed
in the 3rd century B.C. Till this day, the system still controls the waters of
the Minjiang River and distributes it to the farms of the Chengdu plains.
Mt. Qingcheng is located in the southwest of the Dujiangyan Irrigation
Project and this is the birthplace of Taoism. It is a very popular tourist
attraction because of its natural beauty. The mountain, which is surrounded by
a number of peaks is often referred to as 'the most peaceful and secluded
mountain under heaven'.
On this mountain, tourists can also see cultural relics and tour
historical sites such as the Jianfu Palace, the Shangqing Palace and the
Tianshi Cave. At the highest peak of the mountain called Pengzu Peak or
Laoxiao Peak is the Laojun Pavilion. A visit to Mount Qingcheng and Dujiangyan
Irrigation System is highly recommended if you intend to tour Chengdu, China.
