Japan
Capital of Japan-Tokyo
Tokyo, is the capital city of Japan and is one of the largest cities of the
world. Tourists observing this city with its futuristic landscapes of Odaiba
or Roppongi Hills to the bustling ultra modern shopping and entertainment
centers of Shibuya and Shinjuku with its numerous skyscrapers and bright neon
lights of the night would not have known that Tokyo was razed to the ground
not only once, but twice in the last century. The city was destroyed once by
earthquake and then again, by bombing raids during the Second World War.
Tokyo has a population of about 13 million people which is the
largest of the 47 prefectures in Japan. The city is strategically located at
the center of the Japanese archipelago in the southern part of the Kanto
prefecture with a land area of 2187 sq km ( 845 sq miles).
This metropolis occupies less than 1% of the land in
Japan and the city's illustrious history begun in 1603 when Tokugawa Ieyasu
established the Shogunate in Edo, the ancient name of Tokyo. By the 18th
century, the city had evolved into a big bustling city of more than one
million people.

Tokyo tourist attractions
Perhaps, the best known tourist attraction for entertainment in Tokyo is the
Ginza district. Despite the often connected to some sleaze, Ginza is actually
a colorful collection of elegant department stores, dainty traditional
Japanese shops, small galleries and showrooms where you can get your hands
latest high-tech Japanese electronic gizmos. You can also find many coffee
joints, bistros and Japanese tea rooms for you to relax in.
Ginza is also home to the Sony Building and all the latest Sony
electronic products are on display here. Sony Building offers eight floors of
sheer entertainment with the sixth floor exclusively dedicated to PlayStation.
The more traditional and cultural tourist may like to make a bee-line
for to Kabukiza Theatre which is also in Ginza to watch Kabuki performances.
This is a good way to get a taste of the traditional Japanese performing arts.
You should also visit Ueno Park which is home to the world's highest
concentrations of museums and galleries of every exhibition you can think of.
Ueno is the largest park in Tokyo and is also home to an aquarium, zoo,
temples and shrines. The Tokyo National Museum is the largest museum in Japan
which is also in Ueno Park.
There are many more other tourist attractions in Tokyo, the more notable
ones are the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, Roppongi where most of Tokyo's
night entertainment are at and of course, the magical Tokyo Disneyland, which
is the first Disney World in Asia before Hong Kong Disneyland came about. Written
